PROFIBUS
Profibus is a vendor independent, open field bus
standard for a wide range of applications in manufacturing and
process automation. Profibus allows communication between
devices of different manufacturers without any special
interface adjustment. Profibus can be used for both high speed
time critical applications and complex communication tasks.
Profibus offers functional graduated communication protocols
with various transmissions technologies (including RS-485 and
fiber optics).
The use of Profibus in process engineering systems can achieve
cost saving of more than 40% in planning, cabling,
commissioning & maintenance and offers significant
increase in functionality and security.

PROFIBUS DP
DP is the most frequently used communications
profile. It is optimized for speed, efficiency and low
connection costs, and is designed especially for
communications between automation systems and distributed
peripherals. Profibus DP is suitable as a replacement for
conventional, parallel signal transmission as well as for
analogue signal transmission with 4..20mA or HART in process
automation.

PROFIBUS PA
Profibus PA (process automation) is based on the DP
communication profile. The PA profile defines the device
parameters and behavior of typical field devices such as
measuring transducers or positioners independent of the
manufacturer. Profibus PA allows the addition or removal of
field devices even in intrinsically safe areas without
influencing other devices and provides a bus supply using
simply two-wire technology.

FOUNDATION FIELD BUS
FOUNDATION fieldbus provides explicit synchronization of control and communication for precise, periodic execution of control functions without
dead-time or jitter introduced by communications. It delivers time distribution to fieldbus devices for support of Function Block scheduling and alarm time-stamping at the point of detection. The use of Function Blocks allows basic features in measurement and control to be consistently implemented in devices from different manufacturers. Thus, the time required for operator training, maintenance and engineering will be reduced. Control engineers will be able to apply Function Blocks to solve problems without becoming experts in using the Function Blocks of 10 or 20 different vendors.
Foundation fieldbus is suited to high speed or time critical
control applications.
